RHINOCAMP UGANDA

Rhino camp is located in the Arua District, Uganda, hosting over 85,295 persons and is situated on the border of the country’s largest game park which famously sheltered white rhinoceros; from which the settlement name derived.

Rhino Camp, originally opened in 1980, expanded in the wake of the South Sudanese civil war to host the sudden influx of refugees into northern Uganda. The settlement currently hosts more than 116,000 refugees, mostly South Sudanese, and continues to receive new arrivals. In August 2017, the settlement was expanded with the establishment of the Omugo zone extension area.

Note for participants:

As you leave Arua district town heading to Rhino Camp, you will notice some relative green vegetation, mango trees at almost every household however as you get close (60kms) to the camp, you notice less of this.
